Let’s explore light! A hands on light exploration in the studio. We will spend time with strobes and constant light as well as a variety of modifiers.

Studio Lighting Basics. This will be a small group format, limited to 5 participants, with hands on time with my studio gear.
If you are interested in learning more about how to see the light in your images, add OFC light to your current workflow indoors or outdoors, or in setting up a studio space with lighting for your portrait work then this is the course for you. We explore lighting styles so you can determine which type of light will work for your photography and practice a variety of lighting patterns and modifying the light with 1-4 lights.

You do not have to be a professional photographer to attend.
You do need a firm grasp of how you camera works and how to shoot in manual.
This course will improve your indoor and outdoor photography as you learn to understand and control light.

Buff Alien Bees strobes, Light & Motion Stella Constant light, a Nikon speedlight, a variety of modifiers including MagMod gear, Wescott Parabolics, Matthews c-stands, light weight stands, beauty dishes, strip boxes, umbrellas and a variety of other grip gear like apple boxes etc.
This is the perfect opportunity to check out the basics of setting up a home studio space.
Gain confidence in understanding light in portrait photography and use that knowledge with you in studio or outdoors.
Class size limited to 5 people so you get plenty of hands on time and practice.
Bring your camera, your favorite lens, OCF (if you have one), and your laptop.

Southern Illinois is rich in recreation. There is plenty of outdoor activities, hiking, biking trails, boating and other outdoor activities at Rend Lake Giant City State Park, Garden of Gods and others in the Shawnee National Forest as well as a fabulous local Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.
I recommend staying in Marion, Illinois where you can commute with other participants the 15-20 min. to the event location. You will need to commute via automobile from Marion to the event location. Marion is central to other parks and the sites in Southern Illinois and offers a variety hotels and restaurants.
Flight information - Fly into Saint Louis Lambert Airport and commute to Southern Illinois or hop the local commuter flight to Marion. There is ground transportation and rental cars at STL.
